Mint Gems founder Melissa Minton got her start in fashion after graduating from Hamilton College with a BA in Sociology and Studio Art. Upon receiving her degree, she moved to New York City & went to Parsons School of Design to study fashion design. She held internships with Calvin Klein and Theory before accepting a job at Tanner Designs, a women's wear company. During her time at Tanner, she designed their knitwear, prints and scarves.
While living in New York City, Melissa often found herself searching for jewelry to wear to various events. She usually had a clear idea of what she was looking for but always had difficulty finding it. When shopping she would see a style she liked but it was the wrong color stone or it only came in silver but she wanted gold. Frustrated because she couldn't find exactly what she was looking for, Melissa decided to learn how to make her own jewelry. It was through this process that the idea for Mint Gems was born.
At Mint Gems we want you to have a say in the design process. So we started out with a core group of styles that would work well for many different occasions. Once you pick your style, then you decide if it should be silver or gold, what color crystal or stone, the length and which closure. Each piece is then handcrafted especially for you. We really hope you enjoy using this special feature and remember to check back often because we are always adding new styles!
